A court in New Delhi, Inda, has ruled that the new Bollywood Film ‘Hari Puttar’ was sufficiently different to Hollywood’s ‘Harry Potter’ to be allowed on general release.
Warner Brothers, which owns the rights to the Harry Potter movies, launched a legal challenge after arguing that the Bollywood film was too similar.
The New Delhi court decided that people who had read the Harry Potter books, would realise that Hari Puttar was a completely different story.
‘Hari’ is a common name in India, and in Hindi ‘Puttar’ means son.

The full title of the Bollywood movie is ‘Hari Puttar - A Comedy of Terrors’ and involves the comedy adventures of a 10-year-old Indian boy who moves to England.
A spokesman commented: “Our film bears no resemblance to the Hollywood film Harry Potter and it is a completely different story.”
The release of the movie had been delayed by its producers as some television networks were nervous about showing trailers during the legal dispute.
The film will now premiere in Mumbai (Bombay) and be on general release in India a couple of days later.

Am I just being cynical, or does anyone think the producers of the film deliberately used a controversial title to invite free pulicity, i.e. the court case and associated media attention?
